Our Day at Ardoe – Spa & Afternoon Tea Review

Last week my girl friends and I spent a lovely day at Ardoe House Hotel and Spa.  We had bought an itison deal so got use of the spa facilities, 20% off treatments and Wimbledon inspired afternoon tea for £25 each!!

We arrived at the spa around 11am after a delicious breakfast at Dobbies (great price for decent food, service not so great!!).  We were greeted by a helpful member of staff who showed us around the facilities and left us to enjoy!  The changing facilities are nice as is the pool area.  We made use of the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and lounged on the beds around the pool.  It was really relaxing.  2 of the 4 of us had opted to get a gel manicure. The therapists were lovely – they chatted away and made us feel at ease.  I forgot to take a pic of my nails at the time but here they are a week later:

I felt last week that there was quite a big gap at the cuticle however with a week of regrowth and constantly being in water they are actually keeping fairly well!  The gel manicure cost £28 with the 20% discount so quite costly though!

We then headed to the main hotel for our afternoon tea.  Again we were greeted by friendly, helpful staff.  Our Pimms arrived first – I’m not the biggest fan however it was really refreshing and full of fruit!  Yumminess!!

We were offered a choice of sandwiches, fruit or plain scone and tea or coffee which arrived fairly promptly.  One of the girls prefers hot chocolate and this was no problem.

When the stands arrived we were in aww…the cakes looked amazing! The stand pictured was for 2 people to share.  2 scones, 2 tennis ball decorated cake pops, a Victoria sponge, a chocolate macaroon, strawberry tart, chocolate and mint cake (decorated to look like a tennis court), white chocolate and strawberry mousse, champagne jelly with strawberry mousse and a cute wee basket of strawberries!  As there were only one of each cake, we decided to split them so that we could have a taste of each!!

It was all delicious and far too much for us to finish (they do offer to pack to take away but we declined).  All of the cakes tasted fresh and light.  My favourite was the champagne jelly with strawberry mousse.  The jelly had a lovely fizz from the champagne and the mousse was deliciously light and fluffy!

It was more than we’ve paid for other afternoon teas but I would say that it was fairly good value for money at the deal price!  Although we did discuss if it was actually a deal as afternoon tea usually costs £19 pp however we don’t think it included pimms and we also used the facilities to which there was no time limit.

Definitely worth a visit, lovely setting and delicious cakes!!  Until next time cake lovers…
